Fork opens a new Albertson's Grocery Store. The new building
covers an area of over 51,000 square-feet. It is a masonry
building with steel joist and deck and a stucco-accented storefront.
The total area of site improvements includes over 345,000
square-feet.
The beginning of the project was unique starting
with the site work. When crews were digging, they encountered
springs of water due to a high water table. Finding springs
soon became a daily occurrence. Additional trenches and storm
drains were required to solve this problem.
Included
in this store is a pharmacy, video store, deli, bakery, and
an in-store First Security Bank.
In
1939,
Albertson's founder, Joe
Albertson, opened a small grocery store in Boise, Idaho. Joe
changed the rules in the grocery business by introducing unheard
of services like a scratch bakery, magazine racks, home-made
ice cream, popcorn, nuts, and an automatic donut machine.
Today, Albertson's is the fourth largest
retail chain in the United States. Albertson's geographic
base includes 19 western, southern, and Midwestern states
ranging from Florida to Washington.
