Save plans to your personal computer.
If you connect to the internet using a dial-up service, we recommend you upgrade to a broadband connection. The plans, specifications and addenda are typically very large files. The download time to view or save the documents using anything less than a broadband connection can be extremely slow.

To save a drawing to your personal computer, please follow the steps below:

Go to the project page that contains the desired drawing.
Find the drawing by scrolling down the list.
Right-click on the desired drawing.
Left-click on "Save Target As".
At this point you are able to choose where you would like to save the document to on your personal computer. We suggest placing the document in either your documents folder or on the desktop. Most problems occur when the user saves a document or file to a unknown location.
Click save.
Go to the folder where you saved the file and double left click on the document to open it.
To save multiple drawings, repeat steps 3 through 6 until all desired drawings are downloaded.

View trades required/needed on a project
The trades lists are posted on the main page when you enter the Arnell-West website. We also include a copy of the trades list on the project page for each job. The trades list includes: Project Name, Location of Project, Bid Due Date and Time, Estimator Name, and Trades Required/Needed on the project.

Print full size, to scale drawings(plotter)
To print full size drawings, you must first have access to a device that can print full size drawings, such as a plotter. We have created an archive file on each project's drawings page. We have included archives in both Adobe PDF and standard TIF formats. Most people find it easier to print to-scale drawings using TIF format. Please click the link titled, "Archive file of all drawings in TIF format" to get the files.

Print or view plans, specifications, addenda, etc.
By default, documents viewed on our website will be viewed within your web browser. The Adobe Reader plug-in will add a component to your web browsers which will enable you to view documents with a PDF (Adobe) extension.
Plans
Although the text is quite small when printing the drawings to an 81/2 x 11, we find that the writing is quite legible and very useful to our bidders. You can print the drawings the same way you would print any other document. Unfortunately, if you do not have Adobe Reader Version 5 or later you cannot print off selected areas of the drawings onto an 8 1/2 X 11 sheet of paper.
You can use the graphics select tool to print a selected area of the drawing to an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet.
Click on the graphics select tool on the toolbar. (it looks like a dashed box with a square and circle inside.)
Left-click and hold, then drag to create a box around the desired area (whatever is within the box area will print.)
Press the print icon in the Adobe toolbar, or file and print if not interfaced with the browser.
Each printer will have slightly different settings in the print menu. Print range should have selected graphic marked. Below the number of copies, you will see "shrink oversized pages to paper size". Make sure that is selected. Next, you will see expand small pages to paper size. This is the setting that will allow you to print a small detail to an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet and have it expand to fit the page, so make sure that is selected.
  Press ok
The graphics select tool can be unreliable. If you experience difficulties printing a detail, restart your system and try it again. Additionally, some printers work better than others when printing PDF formatted files.
Specifications
Our specification files are multi-document files. We scan each division into a section in order to reduce the amount of links we create on our website. If your area of work is within a given division, you should select the correct division and scroll down until you get to your section. When you get to your page, look at the bottom left corner, and Adobe should list the page you are on. For example: pg 12. If you only want to print your code, then when you select print, choose the option to print "page 12 to 12" (only page 12 will print) or select "12 to 16" and pages 12 to 16 will print. By default, all pages will print if the "from" box is left blank.
Addenda
Addenda files are formatted similarly to the specification files on our website, with one exception: drawings are not always included in the multi-page scan. Drawings can be listed below the text information on the projects page.
Other
Sometimes we receive information we feel will be useful to the bidders. Examples of some of the items we have posted in the past are: pictures of the site, letters of intent, and bidding instructions. All files, with the exception of the pictures, will be in PDF format. The pictures posted on our site will be in a web compatible format.

What programs are needed for Arnell-West.com?
Compression software
For each project we bid, we create a compressed file of all the drawings. You can download the entire plan set at one time. This is especially helpful for those who need 10 or more drawings to bid on a project. Without a broadband connection, you would most likely be unable to download these files.

You can get free software to decompress the files at the following locations:

- 7Zip

- IZArc - (Recommended)

- Winzip

Dimensional Measuring Tool

Drawings, specifications and other information on Arnell-West.com are posted in Adobe Reader™ (PDF format.) Many major computer manufacturers preinstall Adobe Reader™ . If Adobe Reader™ is not already installed, individuals can quickly download Adobe Reader™ from Adobe at no cost. Unfortunately, Adobe Reader™ does not have the capability of scaling drawings or allowing any kind of measuring that would be accurate enough to use for takeoffs.

When available, plans are posted in TIFF format on Arnell-West.com. Takeoff PlanViewer is a dimensional measuring tool that can be used to view & scale TIFF formatted drawings. Takeoff PlanViewer is a free version of the On-Centers retail version. Because the product is free, it does not include all the features of the full version. However, the software is user-friendly and has excellent technical support from the manufacturer. Please visit the manufacturer's site for technical support questions and information reguarding this product.
